Six moves that you can take to save on taxes this year

Every February I have the same conversation. A client tells me about a great year. Then I have to tell them the moves that would have saved them real money closed on December 31.

And the real cutoff is earlier than you think. Between the holidays and every client needing year end work at once, the calendar is gone by mid November. December is triage.

This year that conversation is going to be worse.

The tax bill that passed in July 2025 had several pieces that did not take effect until January 1, 2026. Some of them help you. Some of them quietly take money away. A few of the moves that worked last year now work differently, and 1 of them barely works at all.

So I wrote it down. All of it, in 1 place.

Six Strategies to Lower Your Tax Bill by 12/31 is our 2026 year end guide. It is built for business owners, real estate investors, and high earners who know they are paying too much before the year closes.

3 things in it that will surprise most people:

100 percent bonus depreciation is back, and this time it is permanent. There is no phase out schedule hanging over it anymore. Section 179 goes up to $2,560,000 in 2026.

Charitable giving has a new floor. Only the giving that goes above 0.5 percent of your income counts. If you make $400,000 and give $20,000, the first $2,000 does nothing for you.

Catch up contributions changed for high earners. If your wages were more than $150,000 last year, your catch up now has to go in as Roth. It no longer lowers your taxable income.

The guide also covers income timing, harvesting losses without tripping the 61 day wash sale window, and which investments the code actually rewards. It ends with a 1 page checklist you can print, mark up, and bring to whoever prepares your return.

There is also a section on what is still open after January 1, because not everything dies at midnight.

No form. No email to enter. You are already on this list, so the link just opens it.

Read it, mark the 2 or 3 that apply to you, and act before December 31. Act now and you give yourself options. Wait and you get a bill.

And if you want a second set of eyes on it, the call is 30 minutes and costs nothing. We will tell you whether one of our levels fits or whether you are fine handling this the way you are. Link to book is in the guide.

Standing offer : twenty minutes , whenever you need it

A few of you have already used this and I want to make sure everyone knows it exists.

If you are working through a decision, a property, an exit, an investment, a strategy someone pitched you, or a question you are not sure is big enough to ask, there is time on my calendar for it. Twenty minutes on Zoom or the phone, no cost, nothing attached.

You do not need to be a client. Forward it to whoever needs it.
