Back at the Stewpot
For the second year in a row, the Porter and Company team took a day to volunteer at the Stewpot. We came to serve meals, support their programs, and get to know the people and the mission.
I could tell you it was rewarding. I could tell you it felt good. Both true. But what stayed with me was simpler than that. It was watching our team show up and work alongside the Stewpot staff, who have been doing this work in Dallas for 50 years. They have seen the problem up close. They know what works. They know what doesn’t. And they keep showing up anyway.
None of this volunteering happens without planning. None of it happens without someone who sees the work and decides it matters enough to coordinate it. That person is Bree, our Firm’s Executive Assistant. She organized the entire day for our team. She thought through the logistics, communicated the details, and made sure we could actually show up and do useful work.
That’s leadership. It doesn’t always look like standing at the front of the room. Sometimes it looks like making sure the right people show up at the right time to do the right thing.
Our core values at Porter and Company are Leadership, Excellence, and Honesty. Volunteering at the Stewpot isn’t about checking a box. It’s about understanding that we live in community with people who are struggling. It’s about believing that businesses have a responsibility to use their resources, their people, and their time to help. It’s about being honest about what we can and cannot do, and doing what we can.

Leah Baudino – Welcome to the Team
We are thrilled to introduce Leah Baudino to the P&C team as our new Accounting Project Coordinator. Leah just completed her time at the University of Texas, bringing energy, intelligence, and a creative perspective to the accounting world. Yes, I am biased (she is my stepdaughter), but what strikes you first about Leah is not her intelligence or her talent. It is her genuine happiness. She walks in smiling. She stays smiling. That energy matters in accounting, where precision and patience are everything. We cannot wait to see what she brings to the role.
This transition exists because Mariza Malagon has stepped into a full-time Accounting Associate position with the firm. Mariza joined P&C in December 2024 as our Accounting Project Coordinator. Over the past months, she has shown consistent growth, stepped in wherever needed, and proven she was ready for the next level. When we decided to hire a new in-house accountant, Mariza raised her hand. That kind of initiative and willingness to grow is exactly who we hire. We are grateful for her work and excited to see her thrive in this expanded role.
This is how we build. People grow here. We promote from within. We celebrate when someone earns their next step. Welcome to the team, Leah. Thank you, Mariza, for showing us what committed work looks like.
